Kostas Katsafados, Deputy Minister - Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection
Kostas Katsafados
Was born in Piraeus in 1979. His parents are retired officer of the Hellenic Police, Giannis Katsafados, originally from Lakko in the Local Community of Minas in Apokieri Mani, and Kalliopi Maragkou, originally from Olympos, Karpathos.
He is married to entrepreneur Nora Vasil. Michaloliakou, and they have a daughter, Kalliopi-Anna.
He studied economics at the Department of Economic Science of the School of Economics, Business, and International Studies at the University of Piraeus. He then obtained a Master’s degree in "Business Administration – Tourism Management" from the Department of Business Organization and Administration of the same university. In March 2007, he established his accounting and tax consultancy office in the center of Piraeus.
During his university years, he served as the Head of DAP-NDFK at the University of Piraeus and President of the Board of the University of Piraeus Students' Association “Plato.” He also represented undergraduate students as a regular member of the Senate and the Rector’s Council of the University of Piraeus.
In the 2002 municipal elections, he was elected municipal councilor of the Municipality of Keratsini, and in 2006, he was elected as a regional councilor of Athens – Piraeus under the "Super-Prefecture of Citizens" party led by Argyris Dinopoulos.
In 2007, he was elected Secretary of the Central Committee of ONNED at the ONNED Congress, a position he held until 2010. From April 2010 to May 2012, he served as Vice President of ONNED.
Between 2006 and 2007, he worked as a scientific associate at the Ministry of Public Order, and between 2007 and 2009, he served as a scientific advisor at the Privatization Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
From 2004 and for a decade, he was continuously elected as a Representative of Economists at the Economic Chamber of Greece.
In the 2009 Parliamentary Elections, he ran as a candidate for the 1st Piraeus & Islands constituency with New Democracy but was not elected, receiving 11,169 preference votes.
He was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time in the second parliamentary elections of 2012. He was then elected Secretary of the Hellenic Parliament, a position he held until 2015.
