Secretary General for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Support

Petros Kampouris

Serves as Secretary General for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Support in the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection since August 2023.

Petros Kampouris is a Geologist–Geophysicist, graduate of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Geophysics–Seismology and a Master in Business Administration (MBA).

He has worked as a freelance Geologist–Geophysicist in the preparation of geotechnical and environmental studies for the construction of major infrastructures. He participated, inter alia, in the preparation of the “micro-zone” studies of Heraklion and Thebes in the framework of the pioneering program “AUTO-SEISMO-GEOTECH”, in the preparation of the micro-zone study of the Grevena–Kozani meizoseismal area, in geotechnical–geophysical investigations and studies for the construction of the Egnatia Motorway, in the geophysical study of the Olympic Stadium, etc.

In 2001, he was recruited as a Special Scientist at the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of the Interior, where he served until the beginning of 2009. He was involved, inter alia, in the management of natural and man-made disasters, as well as in the preparation for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. In 2003, he received further training in the United States on disaster and crisis management.

From 2009 to 2013 he worked at the Special Agency for Strategic Planning and Programme Implementation of the Ministry of the Interior, in the implementation of a significant number of projects of the Operational Programme “Administrative Reform 2007-2013”.

From 2013 to July 2023 he served at the General Secretariat for Coordination of the Presidency of the Government and since 2021 he was Head of the Sector “Natural Resources, Rural and Urban Development and Transport”. During this period, he participated in the monitoring of the achievement of the objectives of the fiscal adjustment programmes in the sectors of Energy and Privatisation, in the monitoring and coordination of public policies in the fields of Energy, Environment, Infrastructure, Transport, Rural Development and Shipping, as well as in the implementation of the reform projects and milestones of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan - Greece 2.0, in the same fields.

He is married and has two children.
